Snake Tongue

I am getting way too anxious because in about 5 months, I will be 18 years old and will be able to get more intense body modifications. Though I have a long list of tattoos and possible piercings I would like to get BUT the first thing I plan to do is get my tongue forked(split).

Yeah, kinda like this snake. Tongue splitting is kind of scary and an intense process but the outcome of it all is amazing and worth the pain and bleeding! It’s most commonly done by just taking a scalpel and cutting the tongue in half but in doing that, the tongue will want to heal back together and form a webbing much like the one under your tongue but in between the two split pieces of tongue which will limit the movement of the two sides. It’s something a lot of people do not want to happen and going back in and getting it re-split is more painful than the initial splitting.

For me, that poses as a huge problem so I have been advised to first get a tongue piercing in the spot where I would like the cut to start and let that heal all the way before the splitting. Since that hole from the piercing is healed, it will eliminate the possibility of the tongue trying to heal together forming the awful webbing thus making the need for re-splitting irrelevant!

Just going and getting it cut with a scalpel isn’t the only way to get it done. There is the cauterizing method available as well which is just having a surgical laser go through your tongue. It burns the split sides together minimizing bleeding and getting rid of the needing stitches. I don’t exactly know if it makes the healing process any different though. Along with those two methods there is a method you can do yourself which some people prefer do to since going and getting it done is a little bit pricey, especially if you would like to go to an oral surgeon if you wouldn’t want to be awake for the procedure! For this method, though, you need a tongue piercing that has already been healed . It’s best to get your tongue pierced with the biggest needle available so that the space that’s healed is bigger to avoid the dreaded web I was previously talking about.

The picture above shows how this method works. You insert a piece of thick fishing line through the hole and tie it around the front of your tongue, pulling it tight until it hurts just a little bit. Once the line gets loose, you cut it out and new piece is tied and tightened. As you tie new pieces on, your tongue is gradually split. With this method your tongue either hardly bleeds, or doesn’t bleed at all but this process takes weeks to months to do. This method seems pretty straight forward and easy to do for those who wish to have a split tongue but don’t have the money to get it done. Not having it done by a professional might not seem like a good idea as this method MIGHT pose some hazards but I can’t really think of anything bad that would go wrong with this method. If I don’t have the money to go get it done, I plan on using this method.

In the end your tongue should all beautiful and snake like! Hissssss!
